Abstract Scope |
The study aimed to explore the impact of silver on the age hardening response of a Mg–2.5Zn-0.5-xAg (with x being 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 wt%) alloy. Transmission electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was utilized, along with differential scanning calorimetry for thermal characterization. The results indicated that the addition of silver led to the formation of finer precipitates, resulting in an increase in tensile yield strength and ultimate tensile strength, while slightly reducing elongation. Furthermore, the Linear Polarization and EIS studies of the peak-aged Mg-2.5Zn-0.5Ca-2.5Ag alloy showed improved corrosion resistance due to its more refined microstructure and the formation of a protective passive layer on the surface of the Mg alloys. The peak aged Mg-2.5-0.5-2.5Ag alloy shows the superior antibacterial response towards S. aureus. |
