Abstract Scope |
Rare-earth additions in Mg alloys have been recognized for several decades already. There has been extensive work done on examining the influence of various rare-earth elements (e.g., Y, Ce, La, etc.) till date. However, there are very few studies that have explored the addition of erbium (Er) to Mg. The effects of Er addition on Mg alloys will be discussed. It has been suggested that Er addition can significantly influence the twinning characteristics, recrystallization, and texture development of the alloy. This eventually affects the mechanical behavior of the alloy. There is an optimum level of Er in Mg which can yield beneficial results. This is significant in the context of novel alloy designs for Mg based alloys. |
