Abstract Scope |
The use of magnesium alloys is increasing in various industries due to the increasing demand for lightweight transportation and electronic devices. Accordingly, the need for effective recycling technology for magnesium waste parts and scrap is increasing. Currently, the magnesium alloy recycling method commonly used in industry is to apply flux to the re-melted magnesium to separate impurities and inclusions. When applied to the surface of the molten metal, this flux adsorbs impurities and, due to its high density, settles to the bottom as sludge. Accumulated sludge must be removed periodically to prevent product contamination, which increases process costs. In this study, a novel method was applied to remove sludge by floating it on the melt surface using a flux with a lower density than magnesium. Our results confirm that this approach effectively prevents sludge accumulation at the bottom of the melt. |
