Abstract: Differential Speed Rolling (DSR) is a processing technique used to severely plastically deform (SPD) Mg-xAl-yCa-zMn (AXM) alloys for the purpose of understanding Dynamic Recrystallization (DRX) and its influence on microstructure and mechanical properties in magnesium alloys. AXM alloys were solutionized (noted as T4) and subjected to single-pass rolling (DSR up to 40% reduction) for analyzing the role of temperature and strain rate on the DRX process. AXM alloys yielded partial DRX observed in the microstructure with a slight increase in average grain size resulting in increased tensile strength, but lower ductility. To overcome the drop in ductility, additional studies from post annealing showed static recrystallization of grains occurring in the AXM alloys producing a slight increase in average DRX grain size and improving ductility. |
