Abstract Scope |
Lightweight biocompatible Mg-Zn-Ca alloy has a high potential to be used as biodegradable structural bio-implants. In this study, Mg–1Zn–0.2Ca (wt%) alloy was fabricated by casting followed by forging at 450°C. Thus, a wrought Mg-Zn-Ca alloy with off basal texture along the forging direction was obtained. Uniaxial compression tests were performed at room temperature perpendicular to the forging axis along the flow direction. The tests were stopped at intermediate strains to conduct microstructural analysis and texture evolution using the electron backscatter diffraction technique. The difference in the initial texture profoundly affects the microstructure and texture evolution of the Mg-Zn-Ca alloy. The microstructural examination indicates the evolution of various twins and how their interactions influence texture and strain hardening behavior. |
