Mg being noticed as structure materials because of its lightness however it has poor processability since the crystal structure is HCP structure.
Therefore, forming Mg0.1In0.9 phase which is an FCC structure with more slip systems than HCP structure by adding Indium may improve the workability.
However indium has a high density and the light weight of the Mg alloys will be lost. Therefore, it’s considered that Mg0.1In0.9 phase can be formed with a smaller density by substituting a part of indium with Al which is a same group element.
In this research, Mg-In-Al alloys was prepared, and the purpose of this study were investigating the effect of addition of Al to Mg-In Alloys.
As a result of the experiment, it was found that the addition of Al to the Mg-In alloy results in the formation of the Mg0.1In0.9 phase, which is effective in reducing weight while maintaining workability. |
