Abstract Scope |
The Au nanoparticle-coated magnetic BiFeO3 (Au- BiFeO3) composite was effectively fabricated by hydrothermal technique in this study. The incorporation of Au nanoparticles on BiFeO3 enabled the heterojunction structures to effectively harness sunlight for MB photodegradation. The Au- BiFeO3 composite demonstrated enhanced photoactivities for pollutant photodegradation in comparison to BiFeO39 alone. The results of these investigations indicated that the addition of Au to BiFeO3 can significantly delay the recombination of charge carriers produced by photon absorption, thereby increasing the photoactivity of BiFeO3. The potential photocatalytic mechanism was also proposed and supported by photoluminescence and electronic research. The electron spin resonance and radical trapping results supported the role of oxidatively active species and their interaction in the degradation of MB. In addition, the prepared composite is readily recoverable with an external magnet and demonstrated excellent reusability after three tests. |
