This study examines the interfacial reactions in the Co/Bi2Te3 couples to verify the suitability of Co as a barrier. The couples were prepared by electroplating Co onto a Bi2Te3 substrate. The Co-Bi-Te phase equilibria isothermal sections were determined to provide a better understanding of the interfacial reaction results. At 500℃, no ternary compounds were found, and there are seven single-phase regions: Liquid (Bi), (Co), CoTe, CoTe2, Liquid (Te), Bi2Te3, and (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n in the Bi-Co-Te system. In the Co/Bi2Te3 couple reacted at 300°C, the formation phases were CoTe and (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n. A similar result was found in the Co/Bi2Te3 couple at 400°C. At 500°C, the observed phases were liquid (Bi), (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n, and CoTe. Furthermore, the reaction layer consists of two regions. One region exclusively contains the CoTe phase, while the other region consists of a combination of liquid (Bi), (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n, and CoTe with a higher concentration of dissolved Bi. |
