Abstract Scope |
Laser-based additive manufacturing with deposited powder introduces a melt pool that transitions from keyhole to conduction mode due to powder absorbing much of the laser energy. Synchronized synchrotron and infrared imaging shows the thresholds of powder flow rate and dilution of clads, along with the calibration of emissivity by collecting thermal information. Understanding the interaction of blown powder and the melt pool can help tune the process for more efficient powder flow and processing. |
