Abstract Scope |
The automobile industry is overturning its portfolio to electric vehicles at an incredible pace. This drives new lightweight material combinations to be joined in an increased diversity of model variants and volumes. For example, how to join an aluminum body side outer to AHSS body-in-white or spot weld thin gauge IF steels to multiple sheets of AHSS? Numerical simulation has been an incredibly useful tool for understanding the base physics in remote laser welding however, inclusion of zinc vapor plume is needed for robust spatter prediction. Because of such defects, there is a need for high volume quality processes which can assess the quality as remote laser welding applications expand. Despite the advances seen in our industry, there remain significant hurdles which need to be overcome in the very near future. |
