Abstract Scope |
Additive manufacturing based on direct energy deposition is gaining much visibility in the industry thanks to its high deposition rates and ease of implementation. Another important advantage of the technology is its applicability to a wide range of materials. These materials are considered to be weldable materials. The possibility of combining these materials to obtain parts with variable mechanical properties is an important task to be studied. Therefore, solutions with bimetallic materials that improve the final properties of the part in use are allowed. In this work we experimentally present the fabrication of bimetallic materials, with mild steel-stainless steel in superimposed and overlapped solutions. The flawless fabrication of bimetallic walls from different steels is a unique process presented here for the first time. In addition to the study of the necessary process conditions, the resulting wall hardnesses are analyzed.
