Abstract Scope |
With increasing thrust of bioinspired sensors, especially UV to long wave IR wavelength sensing by some animals and piezo sensing by sea mammals, it is more important now than ever to revisit morphologies of nanoengineered materials of industrial importance. To avoid the radiation induced effects, we have been studying heavy metal based chalcopyrites and chalcogenides. The processing has pronounced effects on the morphologies and hence the performance. We will present low temperature chemical synthesis and high temperature physical vapor transport methods for lead, mercury, and thallium-based selenides. In addition, we will present the effect of surface energy anisotropy during transition of nano morphologies of these materials. |
