Abstract Scope |
Transition metal dichalcogenides have been gaining attention for their impressive optoelectronic performance towards photonics applications. In this work, optoelectronic devices were manufactured from mechanically exfoliated WSe2 bulk crystals placed on oxidized Silicon substrates, and e-beam lithography was used for the metal electrode definition. We conducted Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy studies on the WSe2 crystals prior to the electrical characterization. The device performance of our photoabsorbers was evaluated through dc current-voltage measurements to deduce the photocurrent with a broadband light source, while other figures of merit such as photoresponsivity and detectivity were also calculated. Time-domain measurements with multiple cycles of light-on and off pulses allowed us to tabulate the photodetector switching time constants to allow us to comment on the speed of our detectors. This study provides insights into the performance of WSe2 photodetectors and their potential applications in various fields, including imaging, photonics and optical communication. |
