Abstract Scope |
Ultrasound liquid phase exfoliation is a promising and environmentally friendly technology for manufacturing 2D layered materials in large quantities with high processing yield. Very recent research has indicated that water can be an effective and green liquid media for multi nanolayers graphite (or graphene) production under ultrasound without the uses of other chemical solvents or surfactants. However, there are very large number of ultrasound processing parameters that need to be studied in order to optimise the layer exfoliation process.
Here, we report our very recent research of using MHZ synchrotron X-ray imaging to study in operando conditions the layer exfoliation dynamics of graphite in ultrasound fields. The studies were complemented by multiphysics modelling of the shock waves produced at bubble implosion and the resulting cyclic and impulsive stresses acting on the graphite materials for layer exfoliation. The optimal parameters for ultrasound exfoliation of graphite are discussed and elucidated. |
