Abstract Scope |
We report the fabrication of 3D nanostructure arrays by direct laser write technique which are subsequently phase transformed by two-step annealing process involving rapid thermal annealing (RTA) and pulse laser annealing (PLA) techniques. The RTA pyrolysis technique leads to direct graphitization of amorphous carbon (photopolymer) and the formation of Q-carbon layer on Si (100) is shown later by highly non-equilibrium laser synthesis. The presence of 2D graphitic and Q-carbon film (phases) is confirmed by confocal Raman spectroscopy relating to the sp2 (2D layer) and 3D sp3 tetrahedral bonding respectively. High-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM) imaging reveals the specialized nanostructure features of Q-carbon ball formation. Electron energy loss spectra (EELS) from transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) provides further sp3 bonding information. Finally, we verify presence of ferromagnetic domains using superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry measurements. The electrical and optical properties of Q-carbon nanostructures are also characterized and discussed in this report. |
