Abstract Scope |
Dislocation in structural and functional ceramics are rapidly catching interest owing to their exciting application potential, however, understanding at the atomic scale of the dislocation behaviors in ceramics is still lacking. With combination of atomic simulation of neural-network interatomic potential and dislocation continuous theory, we studied the pile up behaviors of dislocation loops punched out from nanoindenter in wurtzite type ceramics ZnO and GaN. An unprecedented phenomenon was revealed that identical rectangular dislocation loops were continuously nucleated from a single dislocation source under indenter, resulting in a dislocation loop array with a one-dimensional distribution. The predicted pile-up behaviors of the dislocation loop array by continuous theory of dislocation shows a good agreement with experiment. This work provides new insights into the dislocation-dominated deformation behavior of ceramics. |
