The family of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides and nitrides MXenes is one of the largest 2D materials families, with more than forty synthesized compositions and many more that are predicted to exist. MXenes have high electrical conductivity, with hydrophilic surfaces, are ready to bond to other ceramics, and can be used in different applications, including energy, catalysis, and ultra-high temperatures. In 2021, a new area in the MXenes emerged as high-entropy MXenes, which made them one of the first 2Ds to enter the high-entropy research. In these MXenes, four or more transition metals are combined in the form of solid solutions in the 2D atomic planes of MXenes. We have successfully synthesized two high-entropy MXenes of TiVNbMoC3Tx and TiVCrMoC3Tx and since then, many more have been reported around the world. In this talk, the rationale behind high-entropy MXenes, their synthesis conditions, and some of their properties will be discussed. |
