Abstract Scope |
As a kinetic energy-driven process, Cold Spray offers intriguing possibilities for consolidating dissimilar powder materials of differing melting temperature and other properties. Moreover, material composition can be controlled by multi-feeders and toolpath planning to produce graded deposits. This capability enables production of near-net-shape components with unique combinations of properties such as high temperature resistance, ductility, strength, environmental resistance, and compliance with joining materials. Cold Sprayed multi-phase deposits have applications in as-sprayed condition or as a preform for secondary processing. Army Research Laboratory is developing multi-phase Cold Spray processing routes for a variety of material systems including: high entropy alloys, refractory carbide composites, refractory alloys, and others. This presentation will describe the development efforts and present results including deposited material characterization and mechanical properties. Physical limitations of multi-phase Cold Spray will be discussed as well as solutions to common problems. |
