Abstract Scope |
The development of advanced energy absorption materials is crucial for various engineering applications. In this study, functionally graded aluminum/silicon carbide composites were fabricated and optimized using cold spray deposition technique. Laser-assisted cold spray was utilized to improve ceramic retention and improve bonding between the particles. The bonding mechanism was extensively studied and enhanced by optimizing the cold spray parameters. Mechanical characterization involved Split Hopkinson Bar pressure tests, compression tests, and hardness measurements to assess the performance of the composite materials. To make a good comparison, the results were compared with composites prepared using conventional cold spray deposition with different amount of reinforcement. The findings of this research provide valuable insights into the optimization of cold spray parameters and the development of advanced composite materials for energy absorption purposes. |
