Abstract Scope |
Cold gas dynamic spraying (CS) technology has emerged as a promising solution for the repair of oil and gas pipelines, offering a novel approach to restoring their structural integrity and extending their life span. Unlike traditional thermal spray methods, cold spray involves the deposition of metal powders at high velocities and relatively low temperatures, which prevents thermal degradation of the substrate material and ensures a high-quality bond. The aim of the current work was to investigate the feasibility of oil and gas pipeline repair using the cold spray process. To achieve this goal, a complete experimental program was established, including heat treatment of the feed-stock powder, cold spray deposits, micro-hardness, mechanical testing and heat treatment of repaired samples. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in repairing damaged components and highlight its significant potential to meet the challenges of high-quality component restoration using cold spray technology. |
