Abstract Scope |
We introduce Principal Component Analysis Dictionary Indexing (PCA-DI), a novel approach to substantially accelerate dictionary indexing of Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) patterns. In PCA-DI, both simulated and experimental EBSD patterns are projected onto the first several hundred principal components of the simulated pattern dictionary. These components explain the majority of the variance within the dictionary patterns. We demonstrate that this dimensionality reduction substantially lowers lookup costs, without significant compromise to dictionary indexing pattern noise robustness. This new method offers a potential solution for large-scale orientation mapping, low symmetry materials, and real-time dictionary indexing. |
