Abstract Scope |
The mechanical behavior of nanoparticles has been the subject of numerous studies over the past decade, especially by the mean of molecular dynamic simulations. However, many aspects remain to be clarified. The present study focuses on the limitations of these molecular dynamic simulations. Compression tests have been performed on aluminum (Al) and nickel (Ni) nanospheres, at room temperature, and along different crystallographic orientations. Three force field models allowing to apply the solicitation are analyzed and compared. The results obtained show that the most commonly used force field model can have a real impact on the mechanical response obtained according to the direction of loading considered. An alternative approach is proposed. |
