Abstract Scope |
This Work-In-Progress presentation describes the development of a new sophomore level MSE course that teaches materials engineering fundamentals via additive manufacturing projects. The course is designed to prepare new MSE students for upper-level courses while also equipping them with skills to obtain and succeed in industry or research internships. A combination of asynchronous recorded lectures, in-class analytical and computational exercises, and lab projects will engage students in designing, building, testing, and analyzing additively manufactured specimens. In this project-based context, students will learn the fundamentals of the materials tetrahedron and the mechanics of materials as applied to modern manufacturing topics. As the course is still in development, discussion and feedback about the ideas presented are encouraged. |
