Meeting 2024 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition
Symposium Incorporating Additive Manufacturing in Material Science and Engineering Education (2024 Student-led Symposium)
Presentation Title Incorporating Additive Manufacturing in Materails Science & Engineering Laboratory-based Courses
Author(s) Elvin Beach
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Elvin Beach
Abstract Scope Additive manufacturing (AM) continues to find applications for industrial applicaitons in range of fields where mateirals scientists are employed. This talk describes how AM has been incorporated into multiple MSE laboratory-based courses. Blending AM with other important skills such as design, statistics, mechanical testing, and mateirals degredation were important to maintaining the learning objectives in the laboratory courses. This presentation will demonstrate how traditional MSE topics are blended with AM work to create a challenging learning environment that does not exclude other fundamental concepts when incorporating this new technology.
