Abstract Scope |
Materials science plays a critical role in additive manufacturing (AM). Because the material is built at the same time as the component, material science concepts must be integrated along with manufacturing and design concerns. AM workforce development is constantly publicized as critically important, and these interdisciplinary considerations create additional challenges. Educational activities for different roles can take many forms including formal degree programs, outreach, training, credentials, webinars, coursework and more. The integration of material science concepts with AM across the educational pathway will be examined through several examples and case studies. The landscape for current opportunities in workforce development will be discussed along with insight towards future needs in the integration of additive and materials education. |
