Abstract Scope |
Developing accurate thermochemical models to predict the behavior of the volatile fission products cesium and iodine in molten MgCl2-NaCl-KCl under simulated accident conditions is integral to the development and licensing of chloride molten salt reactors (MSRs). Full thermodynamic representation of complex reciprocal systems such as Na, K, Cs, Mg | Cl, I requires assessment of the constituent pseudo-binary and pseudo-ternary additive and reciprocal subsystems. The pseudo-binary MgI2-NaI, MgI2-KI, MgI2-CsI and CsCl-NaCl systems were assessed using data mining and the Computer CALculation of PHAse Diagrams (CALPHAD) methodology and interpolated to the pseudo-ternary additive and reciprocal subsystems, which were optimized using literature data and first time DSC measurements on MgCl2-NaI, MgCl2-KI, MgCl2-NaCl-CsCl and MgCl2-KCl-CsCl. |
