Abstract Scope |
The presence of impurities such as oxides, sulfides, and moisture in molten salts can result in detrimental corrosion issues in structural materials, thus it is vital to quantify and understand these impurity levels in molten salt to ensure material degradation is within acceptable design limits. This study focuses on optimizing the analysis of oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur, and carbon concentrations in molten salts using combustion analysis. The optimization process involves investigating various factors that influence measurement accuracy. These factors include determining appropriate sample weights, the physical form of the sample and its preparation techniques, and carefully controlling the analysis temperature and time to achieve complete combustion without side reactions or volatilization. The choice of capsule material for combustion is also explored to minimize contamination. By systematically addressing these factors, an optimized combustion analysis method can be established, enabling the accurate quantification of impurity levels in molten salts. |
