Abstract Scope |
In this study, hot deformation behavior of non-equiatomic Mn12Fe19Co31Ni26Cu12 alloy was investigated. This specific composition was selected based on screening experiments, where superior mechanical properties and phase stability compared to the equiatomic counterpart, were observed through combinatorial thin film analysis and tensile testing of micro-specimen samples. The hot deformation behavior was analyzed by examining stress-strain response across a range of temperatures and strain rates. Cylindrical samples were prepared from arc melted samples by electrical discharge machining and subsequent hot compression tests were conducted using a Gleeble thermo-mechanical simulator in the temperature range of 850ºC to 1100ºC, at strain rates varying from 0.001 to 10 s-1. Stress-strain curves indicated softening due to dynamic recrystallization. An optimal processing window was identified with detailed microstructural analysis, facilitating the fabrication of alloys with homogeneous composition and microstructure for additional fundamental studies. |
