Over the last twenty years, high entropy alloys (HEAs) have gained notable attention in materials science field for their promising applications as high-temperature materials. The advancement of HEAs is propelled by four fundamental factors: high entropy effects, severe lattice distortion, cocktail effect, and sluggish diffusion effect. These factors collectively contribute to the enhancement of mechanical properties. Out of these effects, sluggish diffusion plays a crucial role in achieving superior material characteristics. Nonetheless, existence and magnitude of sluggish diffusion effect have sparked intense debates.
This lecture provides an overview of the present state-of-the-art in diffusion studies within the context of HEAs and explores potential methodologies. Although the existence of sluggish diffusion in HEAs has been a topic of intense debate, there is currently insufficient experimental
evidence to support its presence. Consequently, the lecture explores potential future research directions that aim to fill the gaps in our understanding of this particular area. |
