Abstract Scope |
Materials researches on cryogenic industries, such as liquid hydrogen and aerospace, have recently drawn large attention on materials science field. Mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of metallic alloys are significantly dependent on temperature. SS316L is widely known to have good mechanical properties at cryogenic temperature. In addition, it was reported that CoCrNi medium entropy alloy exhibited superior mechanical properties at cryogenic temperature. Although studies on the mechanical properties of metallic alloys at 77K have been widely reported, few research papers have evaluated their physical properties under 20K. In this work, we examined the mechanical behavior of afore-mentioned SS316L and CoCrNi medium entropy alloy by focusing on new deformation mechanism known as serration deformation at 20K. This work provides a fundamental understanding of serration phenomena influencing materials degradation at 20K by using in-situ neutron diffraction, SEM/TEM, and metallurgical analysis. |
