Abstract Scope |
The prospect of quickly designing new high entropy alloys specifically formulated for high mechanical strength in combination with processability is attractive. Additionally, longer term supply chain stability and manufacturing method sustainability are key concerns for industry adoption and application viability. This talk will focus on the process and results of developing MPEAs with the criteria of castability, extended elevated temperature mechanical stability, and as low as reasonable critical material content. The target application space being structural materials for next generation energy needs. This study employs an ICME approach that combines automated CALPHAD alloy optimization with experimental methods to increase the likelihood of new material discovery. The presentation will include methods for modeling, manufacturing, and characterization along with results for the alloy’s castability, microstructure, and mechanical strength at elevated temperatures.
