Abstract Scope |
Out of a variety of single-phase multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs), the equiatomic NiCoCr MPEA is the most studied due to its extraordinary enhancement of both strength and ductility with the decreasing temperature down to the cryogenic temperature range. Recently, the equiatomic NiCoCr MPEA has been found to have the highest crack-growth fracture toughness, 540 MPa·m½ at 20 K. However, the equiatomic NiCoCr MPEA is not necessarily an optimal candidate in the Ni-Co-Cr system for cryogenic temperature applications. We systematically examined the temperature effects on the deformation behaviors of a variety of single-phase non-equiatomic Ni-Co-Cr alloys. We established a precise map of the correlation between composition and mechanical performance in the single-phase Ni-Co-Cr MPEAs. The constructed deformation map provides an accurate guide for the design of strong and ductile Ni-Co-Cr based MPEAs. |
