Abstract Scope |
An integrated computational and experimental approach is developed to meet the design challenge of structural alloys with low densities (e.g., ~5 g/cc) and low costs (e.g., ~$3/kg) while having yield strengths and toughness comparable to or exceeding those of conventional titanium and stainless steel alloys. The approach exploits the adaptive design and high-entropy alloy concept implemented with active learning in a high-throughput machine-learning model of phase classification and mechanical properties. The method is shown to yield some low-density and low-cost compositionally complex alloys with the potential for further discoveries. |
