Abstract Scope |
The development of advanced nuclear reactors and processes requires reliable and efficient nuclear safeguards, process monitoring, and nuclear material accountancy approaches. A recent focus has been the application of coupled spectroscopy approaches to monitor molten salt and off-gas streams online using coupled spectroscopy techniques. At INL, we have developed an innovative molten salt sampling approach that utilizes a flow configuration combined with a nebulizer for online monitoring. This work will discuss the design and optimization of the aerosol system, optical cell, and integration of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS). The results for aqueous surrogate materials in the system to verify design aspects and explore the operating parameters and figures of merit (FOM) for the different spectroscopy techniques will be presented. The design and optimization of process parameters and preliminary testing of molten salt off-gas setup at INL equipped with coupled LIBS and UV-VIS spectroscopy techniques. |
