Abstract Scope |
Fiber optics offers two ways of measurement, one where the fiber by itself is the measurement element and the second where nano measurements elements are implant in the fiber at specific points of the fiber. Fiber optics is used in the petroleum industry to obtain accurate and reliable measurements of temperature, and in metallurgy very few information is available. A presentation of the application of fiber on a laboratory furnace was presented at the last congress, showing the application of the first type of fiber optics. One of the big advantages of fiber optics is the spatial resolution that any other technology can offer. This paper will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two types of measurement with fiber, applications on metallurgy furnaces and some results of measurements on industrial furnaces. |
