Presentation Title MPOTŪ Cutting Edge Technology Integration in Old Smelters A Focus on Reverb Melters

Abstract Scope All furnaces leak. This paper discusses five proven advancements that convert older smelters into new ones: 1) MPOT-Air (air-oxy-fuel) and MPOT-F Burners (100% O2), 2) MPOT- IPCU, Integrated Pressure Control Unit, 3) MPOT-DLC, Dynamic Lambda Control, our tool for prescriptive management of furnace yield, and 4) Burner Positioning Optimization, and 5) MPOT-FixReact, our solution for carbon capture. Bottom Line: combining these technologies will result in lower operating costs ($/lb) by improving a reverb melters’ productivity, lowering dross formation, minimizing pure oxygen participation, dramatically improving the homogeneity of the bath, reducing wear on the roof and wall opposite the burners (often the charge door), while dramatically reducing the carbon footprint of the melter. This is a winning combination for cast houses that want to minimize costs ($/lb), while increasing productivity (lb/hr).
