Abstract Scope |
Various superconductive cuprates have been synthesized under high pressures. By introducing oxidizing agents with the samples, high oxygen partial pressures can be realized. In the present study, Ag2O was used to oxidize Au and to synthesize a novel Au-Sr-Ca-Cu-O cuprate. Powders of Au, SrO2, SrCuO2, Ca2CuO3 and CuO were mixed. The mixed and Ag2O powders were compacted in a gold capsule separated by a gold sheet. A cubic anvil type press was used for the high pressure synthesis at 5.5 GPa and 1150-1100 oC for 3 hours. TEM observations showed a layered structure similar to Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy with a body centered lattice for the primary unit cell. Superstructure with three time of a-axis length for the primary unit cell was also observed. From EDS data, 33% of Cu was replaced by Au. XPS results showed Au3+ peaks. These results indicated that Au was successfully oxidized to form a novel Au-Sr-Ca-Cu-O phase. |
