Abstract Scope |
A diverse patent portfolio and an effective global intellectual property strategy are vital in today’s business world. Not only does a diverse patent portfolio enable a company to secure a monopoly within the market, it greatly increases the value of a company’s intangible assets and keeps competitors at bay. At the same time, technology is ever-changing. New technologies are continually being developed to meet the needs of business but also with concern to the environment. This presentation will provide an overview of the patenting process as it pertains to the emerging field of “green” technologies, and will summarize some general patenting strategies. A review of new green technology initiatives recently adopted by certain Patent Offices around the world will also be provided. These initiatives are expected to benefit patent applicants in the mining and materials sectors, where innovative research and development efforts are often directed to environmentally-conscious products and processes. |
