Abstract Scope |
The microstructure and mechanical properties of additively manufactured (AM) alloys can be significantly affected by variations of cooling rates across different additive manufacturing (AM) platforms, resulting from different process conditions. Therefore, it is essential to systematically evaluate the effect of processing on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AM Inconel 718. This study aims to assess the effects of identical heat treatment schedules on the microstructural characteristics and tensile properties of Inconel 718 manufactured via three AM technologies of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), laser powder directed energy deposition (LP-DED), and wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) processes. Similar heat treatments were applied to all batches, and samples were analyzed at each step using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, tensile testing was performed at room temperature, and variations in tensile behavior across all batches were analyzed using microstructure and fractography results. |
