Abstract Scope |
While production speed of PBF-LB/P can increase by expanding the layer thickness, it reduces part resolution in the stacking direction. To obtain both, layer thickness adjustment in accordance with part geometry will be effective. Optimizing the input laser energy with respect to the layer thickness ensures sufficient melting and part strength. Additionally, the use of a near-infrared laser and absorbent can increase penetration depth or depth of fusion, according to previous studies, on the other hand, the optical properties of powder bed can vary largely depending on the layer thickness. This means that the input energy that actually contributes to melting changes. This study proposes a method for determination of the input laser energy to the various layer thickness without trial and error by estimating the actual input laser energy based on the amount of energy required to melt the powder layer and the optical properties of the bed. |
