Abstract Scope |
Ti-6Al-4V is one of the most used alloys in implant engineering and lattice structures are used to locally adjust the stiffness of implants to the bone. TPMS lattice structures are becoming increasingly popular due to their curved surface and good manufacturability. Tests with different TPMS structures show a strong interaction between design factors and manufacturing parameters. But in literature no detailed sources for the optimization of manufacturing parameters were found. Instead, samples were mostly fabricated with the same process parameters, which means the optimum for further analysis (e.g., on microstructure and mechanical properties), was not necessarily investigated. In this work, a design of experiments approach is used to develop process parameters for TPMS lattice structures and show their influence on density, dimensional stability, and surface roughness. CT scans are evaluated to investigate the target parameters. Structures with 0.1 mm wall thickness and edge length of only 1 mm are fabricated. |
