Abstract Scope |
This study compares the microstructure and mechanical properties of Haynes 282 fabricated by two different additive manufacturing (AM) technologies of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) and laser powder directed energy deposition (LP-DED). Both conditions underwent stress-relieving at 1065°C for 1.5 hr, followed by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at 1162 °C for 3.5 hr under 103 MPa, and the standard 2-step aging processes. Fully heat-treated samples were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy for microstructural analysis, and tensile testing was performed at room temperature. Results show that the ultimate tensile and yield strengths of L-PBF specimens were 18% and 57% higher, respectively than those of LP-DED specimens. While the elongation to failure was similar in both cases. Microstructural and fracture surface analyses were conducted to explain the observed differences in tensile properties between the two conditions. |
