Abstract Scope |
The Material Extrusion (MEX) process is an important manufacturing technique used in the production of a variety of components and products. The aim of this study is to assess the fatigue behavior of Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) reinforced with short carbon fibers (SCF-PETG) using the MEX process. To achieve this, commercially available SCF-PETG filament is subjected to constant stress conditions to investigate the impact of various process parameters, such as laminate type (unidirectional, angle-ply, and cross-ply) and layer heights (0.3, 0.2, 0.1, and 0.05 mm), on fatigue behavior. Very few research studies have considered these parameters with SCF as fiber material. The experimental data are analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, revealing significant variations in fatigue life due to the process parameters. Additionally, the S-N curve is generated by testing specimens under four stress levels using optimized printing parameters. |
