Abstract Scope |
Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is a versatile technology that enables the production of complex parts through layer-wise deposition. To prevent delamination and cracking during fabrication, WAAM parameters are set such that the initial layers provide a strong adhesion between the deposited material and build substrate. In this work, the authors explore process parameters to induce the deposition of a porous raft structure, which purposefully offers poor adhesion to enable facile part removal. The porous raft structure also facilitates effective heat dissipation for more uniform thermal gradients to reduce residual stresses in the printed layers and mitigates part delamination. This work investigates WAAM produced components that are both consistent in deposition quality and self-releasing to further advance the capabilities of this technology. |
