Abstract Scope |
Given the flexibility in the process design space, it is unknown how various sets of process parameters used in the w-LMD and WAAM influence the mechanical properties (tensile and fatigue strengths at room and high temperatures). In this paper the effects of process parameters on the mechanical properties of IN718 at room and high temperature (up to 980oC) will be investigated; in search for optimal process parameters. The deformation mechanisms, fracture, and failure in low cycle fatigue (LCF) of the w-LMD and WAAM IN718 will be investigated via mechanical testing and material characterization techniques. Using Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) as a baseline post processing technique, a combination of different heat treatment techniques will be used to identify suitable heat treatment protocol that results in best tensile and LCF strength. Post-mortem analyses will also be carried out to study the temperature-dependent deformation/failure mechanisms associated with the w-LMD and WAAM process routes. |
