Abstract Scope |
Wire-based directed energy deposition enables to print large parts with reduced manufacturing cost due to higher deposition rate & material efficiency and less costly system. Owing to these benefits, industries have attempted to increase their manufacturing productivity by increasing production rate in an existing design with a single robot. Still, the single robot approach encounters a serious limit on printing time. In another way, we can think about parallel deposition with multiple robots on a single object. In this study, distortion mitigation strategies have investigated with four tool paths and three multi-plate solutions (i.e., horizontal-cut, vertical-cut, multi-cut) in a bar for single heat source and a cylinder for multi-heat source system. The distortion was predicted using finite element method and compared to measured distortion using 3D laser scanner. The findings of this research will allow us to develop theoretical and practical insight on controlling the part distortion and residual stress. |
