Abstract Scope |
While the extensive work on Additive Manufacturing has enlarged the design freedoms for monolithic parts made of single or multiple similar materials, it has yet to enable robust production options for parts made of multiple disparate materials.
This presentation will review an architecture for hybrid manufacturing that aims to unlock new combinations of material classes including the potential to use dissimilar feedstock forms to make parts with locally optimized properties. Specifically this work aims to help automate assembly that has not been practical in the past as well as open up new types of product performance. Examples will be shared including proof-of-concept samples combining metals and polymers. |
