Abstract Scope |
Refractory metals exhibit stable mechanical properties at elevated temperatures, making them suitable candidates for aerospace propulsion components. Research efforts have shown the viability of additively manufacturing C103 via Laser Powder Bed Fusion. However, this approach is often limited to the build volumes of these machines. Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (LP – DED) can produce larger builds on the scale that is often required for these applications. To understand the mechanical response of this alloy, this work focuses on the material characterization of C103 thin wall specimens produced using RPM Innovations’ 222XR LP-DED platform. Results for tensile testing, microhardness, and microstructure are presented. |
