Abstract Scope |
Advanced technologies and metallic materials are rapidly progressing in PBF-LB. Aluminium alloys are one of the most attractive metal systems processed with high reliability and used in high-value applications for demanding industrial sectors. However, there is an industrial need for novel aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs) with enhanced properties for prospective advancements in various applications. Although PBF-LB drastically shortens the design-to-manufacture time, material qualification using conventional experimental methodologies is lengthy and time-consuming. In-situ monitoring has developed over the years, and multiple forms of sensors are available to better understand the process on-the-fly. This talk presents a study that assessed the viability of utilising in-situ monitoring during the qualification of a BN-reinforced-Cu-strengthened-AlSi10Mg composite. The properties of the material were experimentally evaluated using various monitoring techniques. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of in-situ monitoring for faster qualification of new materials in PBF-LB, leading to a shorter qualification time and improved efficiency. |
