Abstract Scope |
This study explores sustainable production methods for chromite, focusing on pre-reduction using a methane-hydrogen gas mixture. The research evaluates the impact of this gas mixture on comprehensive metallization and pellet compressive strength, key parameters in ferrochrome production for stainless steel manufacturing. Optimal conditions were identified at 10% methane and 90% hydrogen at 1100oC for 3 hours, resulting in a 36.3% comprehensive metallization rate and a pellet strength of 1051 N. The study also reveals the formation of various chromium carbides and metallic chromium from methane cracking, which contributes to pellet densification. However, excessive carbon leads to decreased pellet strength, highlighting the need for balanced methane input. These findings provide valuable insights for environmentally friendly chromite processing.
